GardionParental controls on vivo phones: why they switch themselves off and the three settings that fix it
In September Android logged the same reason four times for why a parental control app stopped on a vivo phone: it was shut down by com.vivo.safecenter, vivo's own security center. That is why every setup on vivo starts the same way for us: right after installing the controls, turn on three switches in vivo's own settings. We checked where they are against vivo's support pages.
What vivo has out of the box
First, open the app list on your child's phone and look for the Play Store. If it is there, the phone has Google services, and Family Link or any other parental control app installs the usual way. We cover the steps in our guide to setting up parental controls on a child's phone.
Many models also have a built-in Kids Mode. Its place in the menu moves between versions of vivo's software, so the quickest way to find it is the search bar in Settings. The mode runs on the phone itself, and a parent sees what it does only on the child's screen.
Why parental controls go quiet on vivo
Any parental control app has to run in the background all day: count minutes, block a game on schedule, send the report. vivo has its own manager that watches battery use and unloads apps running in the background. For parental controls that is the worst case: the limits stop working, and a child is not going to reopen the control app on their own.
Android records the reason every time an app stops, and we read those records. On a vivo V2454A running Android 16 the culprit each time was vivo's security center, not Android itself. So Android's general battery setting is not enough here. You need vivo's own sections.
Three settings from vivo's support pages
vivo support lists three steps to keep an app open in the background. We checked them on 21 September 2026. Do them on your child's phone for the parental control app.
Lock the app in recent apps. Open the app, swipe up from the bottom edge, pull its card down and tap the lock icon. A lock appears over the app, and memory cleanup leaves it alone.
Allow background activity. Settings → Battery → High background power consumption. Find the app and switch it on.
Turn on autostart. Settings → More settings → Apps → Autostart. Without it the app does not start again after the phone reboots.
On older versions of vivo's software the same switches live in the i Manager app: background power under Power manager on Funtouch OS below 3.0, and autostart under App manager on version 2.6 and earlier.
How to check the settings worked
Restart your child's phone and do not open the control app on it. Half an hour later, check from your own phone whether a fresh report has arrived and whether the schedule kicks in. If there is no report, go through the three steps again. And recheck them after every system update.
Tell your child the controls are on. They will spot the lock in recent apps on the first evening.
